Is This Post Short or Long?
Well, I expected to have posted something yesterday, well because yesterday was yesterday and today’s not. However, there seemed to be little motivation do have done so yesterday (which is a good thing considering past experiences on posts made on that particular date) and while there still aren’t too strong a motive to be doing it today, I just felt like I should for old times’ sake (and I’m in need of a distraction from self-deprecation studying for my finals).
For those without a calendar and extra-terrestrial beings on a different time scheme (Greetings! Earth sucks, don’t invade. Peace out), yesterday marked the 24th day of the 10th month of the year; the first day of Scorpio, and my birthday. It’s a rarity that I spoke of my birthdays with positivity, and it still is, unless one counts the lack of intense negativity as the presence of positivity.
To be more precise, the date aforementioned has passed this year in a rather uneventful manner. There were no flower pots aimed at my head, no blacking-out, no almost dying via choking on one’s own vomit (although I almost vomited on the 23rd ) and hence no near-death experience. I wonder if the grim reaper has given up on me for now. Isn’t that sad?
The day began almost swimmingly. The only people I HAD to meet (since they live with me) almost forgot it was my birthday (I should have lied when they asked for it to see my ‘life path’ on their little electronic Chinese dictionary gismo; it sounds even sillier now… Damn my compulsive honesty) but, some higher power had decreed I will not be so lucky thus knocking the fact into their brains and in response they wished me and proceeded to humiliate me later that day by cajoling 10 (not really) odd people, inclusive, to sing that blasted song in my honour, but with no cake and no presents; way to soften the blow guys…
In between the wishing and humiliating, there was of course a whole day worth of wishes coming from all possible electronic medium of communication. (Did I not mention that the singing happened after the evening barbeque for some guy downstairs who’s leaving, thus the crowd? My bad...) This, of course, implied that most of my time was spent replying those wishers. Although I said all day, there were technically not that many wishes (less than all my fingers and toes), just some spanned into conversations.
Before I continue, if some readers felt that the number of birthday wishes I received deemed me a nobody, an outcast of civilisation, a social inept, hence making me an unworthy writer to follow,(shame on your fickle-mindedness and mine) rest assured that there is a reason behind it. I chose to not make my birthday readily available on those birthday reminder programs because I have my reasons, thus decreasing my generic well-wishing count.
Among those noticeably absent are all my old high school friends. Yeap, not even one of them. Geez, how old are they? (and by extension, me [Luckily no one chose to remind me yesterday]) This is, however, not all too surprising as, thinking back, I am actually wondering how did some of them remember it last year? Regardless, it’s not something I hold against them because I’m just not that petty, in this matter at least. And when I said all, I did mean all.
While it was a slight relief that I did not receive any word from a certain person, I cannot help but wonder if I was really forgotten by the person or was a conscious choice made? If so, why and what does it mean for the present and of the past? I am glad to report (to myself anyways) that the moment lasted no longer than a few songs, there was no sharp pains and I couldn’t even bring myself to wallow. I certain hope this means I have moved on, although it can only be truly tested by meeting face-to-face, which I am choosing to avoid for my own mental well-being.
In a way, I guess I still have a sort of masochist streak when it comes to it. I even manage to write an entire paragraph preoccupying my mind with the person and went digging a little... Don’t worry, I’m just as disturbed as the next person.
Before this begins to drag on (and on), I am going to change the focus. Not only was yesterday the 24th, it was also a Friday night in America, and that could only mean one thing : UGLY BETTY!
Although Betty love life is seriously boring to death (again), I was pleasantly surprised it was Marc’s birthday as well. (Since I could not find his [or any of the other cast members’] birthday anywhere on the characters’ biographies, I shall presume it coincides with mine, just for fun =P) Best still, like me, he was not a big fan of the special day, like Amanda said it “Wow, you’re like oozing self-pity today... Oh my God, Happy Brithday!” and Betty “since I know you wouldn’t get yourself a cake, [she did]”. It just made my day so much better.
sidenote : Did anyone else notice the bape-like baby blue and white monkey figurines decorating the tube? They are so CUTE!! Me wants!!
So, as I blow out the (metaphoric) candles on the cake, I wish...
